    Let me preface this by describing my truck. It’s a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 short wheel base(bed) base model. The original 17″ wheels have been replaced by the OEM 20″ wheels I bought from a guy online. With that said, short wheel base + 20″ wheels, the truck rides rough(think jeep like). I have a 140k on the OEM shocks and it was recommended to me to replace them, so the search was on. I had to have realistic expectations, I know not even the most expensive shock would make this truck ride like a limo. I wanted something somewhat budget friendly, but also of decent quality, hence I bought the Monroe’s.
    Installation was about as straight forward as it can get, front’s are a little more difficult because the shocks are located inside the coil springs(you don’t need to compress the springs as with a strut for installation, so don’t let that configuration discourage you). At the same time of installing the shocks, I also installed a pair of 2″ drop shackles in the rear to reduce it’s crab like stance. After installation, it was time for a test drive. My overall opinion is that while it softened the ride from the factory(shot) shocks quite a bit, I felt it gave me more control over heavier bumps in the road, the truck felt more ‘grounded’ than with the old shocks. Prior to installing these new shocks, the truck felt like a buckboard with no suspension at all; I was miserable driving this thing, but now, it is substantially better, but after all, it’s still a pickup truck.
