  1. Rich

I installed this setup on my ’15 DoubleCab Shortbed PreRunner. Initially wanted to get the rake out of the front end. The 6112 fronts are installed at the 2nd lowest clip setting, and that leveled the truck perfectly. My plan now, is to add a 1.5″ progressive AAL, and reset the front to match. Ride quality is awesome.

I installed this setup with a pair of ICON 1.5″ Progressive AAL’s with shims and carrier drop on a 2011 Access Cab 4×4. Setup is on the 3rd clip which is 1.6″ up front then the 1.5″ AAL and 3-deg shims push it up to about 1.8″ in the rear. The rear *just* sits higher (with a shell) than the front which is what I want (have a shell and carry tools daily, so the tools should level it). Difference is day and night, the ride is much more confident, mannered, and smooth, it drives somewhat like a full size truck that stays more planted and isn’t as jittery and jarring.. It feels like the suspension is actually doing what it is supposed to be doing so the driver and the rest of the truck can do what it needs too. To me before the whole truck would bounce and jump at a moderate bump and now it just eats them up. Also, there is much less dive when braking which means there is more weight over the back so it seems to brake a little better too. With the setup I have the OEM size tires look fine, and I haven’t gotten on the dirt yet so can’t comment there.

The kit isn’t what I would call complete, even though it is in the “complete lift kits” section you still need a source of lift for the back end. The difference between the OEM Bilstein and the 6112 is about a toilet paper roll up to a beer can, massive, not expecting that. Another difference that was nice is the remote mounts for the rear shocks. It is a 1 piece billet’ish anodized aluminum with Bilstein logo that includes hardware to mount in existing holes in the frame of the truck so it looks good and not frickin’ hose clamps. If you go over “inches” of lift from what I have I would also recommend a drop for the front sway bar. It was at its limit when the wheels are off the ground at the 3rd clip setting. Have a slight vibration between 30 and 40 but I think it’s the tires as I haven’t gotten the truck aligned yet and the shims and carrier drop kit didn’t seem to help; It seems like the vibration is better if I’m in a moderate turn at that speed. I also picked up some new KYB strut mounts for the front off Amazon and added a 1/4″ spacer on the drivers side to correct lean. Anyway, if you have the money and are looking for an upgrade to make your Tacoma a bit more comfortable, here ya go.

….as a followup to my previous review.

The 30-40 MPH vibration was 2 things; One, it was out of alignment, the alignment helped massively. Second issue was a design flaw on Toyota’s CV support needle bearing in the front diff. If you get a vibration that starts at about 30 MPH LIFTED or NOT AND the sound goes away when you engage four wheel drive then you have this issue, look at Toyota TSB: T-SB-0026-15. If the truck is under warranty it is free BUT they will probably argue with you about it being lifted. My truck wasn’t under warranty and paid cash for the labor to install a 3rd party bushing. Labor was just over $200.00 bucks (Apr-2016, Southwest Region) and East Coast Gear Supply has a custom bushing to replace the shit needle bearing for 60 bucks. The TSB does include a needle bearing redesign so if you go that route you aren’t getting the same poor design. Toyota broke the old bearing taking it out and had to remove the whole front diff. In that process I was given a loaner 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport and it was a wonderful reminder of how shitty the OEM suspension is on these trucks and how tiring I can get driving around all day in my ‘old setup’.

Lastly I ended up putting in the factory overload back in the truck cause I was just carrying too much weight back there. I ground off the forward guide on the overload and cut down the guide rivet on the ICON springs, would probably do the inverse but had already cut the overload guides. Point being that with the ICON AAL’s, the Overload, and the shims the back end is at to just over 2″ and haven’t had issue yet but haven’t gone through full travel, firewood season is here though so I’ll find soon; I’ll post back up if I damage the shocks from exceeding their travel. The reinstalled overload didn’t seem to change the ride quality much as you really need to compress that back end to feel it catch.

Another quick thing to add in, if you assemble these yourself you need a spring compressor that doesn’t go ‘into’ the spring. The front shocks are too big and the compressor ‘hooks’ didn’t fit in with the shock.

ANYWAY, If you are looking and can afford this setup, do it, (Arnie Voice) do it now!

Installed easily without spring compressing tools just jacks on 2015 Toyota Tacoma trd off road quad cab. Set at highest setting on front coilover added 1.5″ add a leaf for the rear with 5160 bilstein shocks.1″ diff drop kit was also installed. Overall ride is much better and I can hardly feel roughness on roads compared to stock suspension. I my have to replace weak front driver side needle bearing due to common issue “vibration and low growling sound when lifting 2nd gen yotas. Ecgs offers improved bushing to replace needle bearing. I am very content with the performance improvement!

I installed the Bilstein 6112/5160 combo with ICON 1.5″ Lift Rear Expansion Pack Add a Leaf. I am very happy with this setup. The currently setup for my 6112 is on the 5th clip, giving me approximately 2.46″. My overload leaf is still in place. This gave me an even height all the way around. I also installed BFG’s 285/70/17, no rubbing at all. This gave me about 1″ to 1.5″ clearance on my front tires. I currently do not need UCA’s installed, but will purchase them in the future. Overall, I’m glad I took this route, rather than paying $3000+ for fox or Kings. I have taken my toy on some trails, I have to say “it rides like butter”.

My awesome wife got me the 6112/5160 kit for Christmas. I am a basic DIY guy and was able to install them with basic hand tools in my 2011 Tacoma TRD Off-road. First front shock took 2.5hrs since it was my first one ever, but the rest took less than an hour each.

I placed the clips on the front shocks at the 4th highest notch and now my truck is 1.2° higher at the front which is pretty obvious visually. I plan on lowering it to the 3rd notch when I get a chance.

Overall the performance is amazing. I am a weekend warrior and my truck is a daily driver. I love how it handles the bumps and dips of daily driving. I haven’t had it off-road yet but I can tell it’s already worth it.

I’ve included some before and after and some side by sides so you can see the difference.

Decided to go with these over the 5100’s. Better option for overland or off-road use. 5100’s are a bit more conservative. Ride quality is great and went with timbren bump stops front / rear rather then an add-a-leaf or leaf pack in the rear. Was told better option. Very happy with this lift for the Tacoma’s. Better then stock ride quality.

Middle of my installation and turns out I am missing parts. My truck is on stands in my garage unable to be used and I am struggling to get in contact with them. I now and having to borrow vehicles and have no timeline on when or if my part will arrive. Would love to be able to review the actual suspension but it seems I cannot even get to the testing phase.
