Aftermarket 4wd suspension is extremely complex. Determining the right solution for your vehicle and your requirements demands special attention to many factors. Unlike numerous aftermarket suspension systems, which are only available in a single configuration targeting lift height, Old Man Emu offers a range of tuned and matched integrated suspension systems to ensure the right suspension is available to suit how the vehicle is outfitted and the conditions it will encounter.
Design and Development
Initial evaluation of the new 2016 Tacoma was that the vehicle provided a balanced, compliant ride that gave the OME engineers a good platform for developing a range of suspension solutions. Consideration was given to the front geometry to maximize the lift while maintaining optimal levels of droop, down travel and proper alignment.
This new generation of Tacoma has a different weight bias and total weight than the previous generation, so a full run of ride testing was undertaken to ensure the proper combination of solutions were found.
Front Suspension:
Springs:
Three spring options were chosen to cater for: No Bar, Bar or Winch only and Bar + Winch vehicle setups. As the suspension design is the same as the previous model Tacoma, existing coil part numbers could be used, noting some slight change in application. Factory geometry allowed for a 2-inch lift and while still maintain an adequate level of droop.
Struts:
An extensive development and tuning project was undertaken to correctly match the ride quality to the spring rate and resulted in 2 front strut options depending on spring selection.
A front trim packer is not needed because shocks come with a ring for adjustment for the lean.
Rear Suspension:
Springs:
Great emphasis was placed on ride comfort, with and without a payload, which led to three loading scenarios using the same leaf spring part number (CS047R). For stock loads where no weight is added, it is recommended to remove a leaf from the spring pack to maximize ride comfort and achieving a 2 inch ride height increase. For heavy applications an extra leaf has been designed.
Stock loads (0lbs to GVM, optimal performance at loads of 0-300lbs) *Removal of third leaf required

Constant 600lbs (600lbs to GVM, optimal performance at loads of 600lbs plus) *Extra leaf required
Shock Absorbers:
The rear shock absorber has been developed and tuned with particular attention to controlling the vehicle both with and without payloads. Numerous iterations of valving were tested in order to determine the best possible spring and shock absorber combination based on potential payload scenarios. As a result the best possible con guration of ride comfort and vehicle control was achieved.
Bushes and Hardware:
A spring bush kit has been developed to work with the original shackles and the driveline spacer kit is available should the vehicle experience any driveline vibration.
Complete Kits:
For the US market, ARB has create 3 separate complete kits to increase the ease of ordering, purchasing, and out tting the new generation of Toyota Tacoma’s. There is a kit suitable for each of the foreseeable types of additional weight that may be installed on the front of these vehicles, using the range of coil springs available. Customers will nd exactly what they need between the Stock, Medium (bumper or winch), and Heavy (bumper + winch) Load kits.
The removal or addition of a leaf spring would need to be completed for those individuals knowing that their rear load scenarios would be lighter or heavier than the constant 300+ lbs load the spring is designed around.

Billy Bob STAFFORD –
This was OME kit was installed on a 2017 TRD Tacoma Offroad. The kit was a heavy front (Taco has a winch and bumper installed) and the Medium leaf springs. A Big Heck YES. Improved Offroad preformance and still a a good on road ride. Two thumbs up.
Cole –
Simple to install. Did this on my 2017 TRD Offroad Double Cab Short Bed. Ride is the same as stock, handling is much better. Overall lift height is perfect for my use. I am a 95% highway and 5% offroad user. These struts handle both. On road the ride is smooth, off road, WOW! I am very impressed in how these handle and ride off road. The quality of these parts are fantastic too. The kit came with everything needed. I went with 275/70R17 tires on the T4R Pro 17 inch wheels with no spacers and zero rubbing.
Craig Nitro, West Virginia –
Installed on a 2017 Tacoma TRD Off Road with stock rims 265/70/R16 tires, TJM front and rear bumpers, No winch.
Installation was rather straight forward, front shocks are not assembled so you need to reuse the original top hat. No instructions with the kit but plenty of video’s on line. Kit was delivered in 4 packages by two carriers.
Be aware: I still have no idea how to get a hold of BilsteinLifts.com other than by email. Receipt has no address or phone number to contact them.

We are a 2 Tacoma household. Both 2019 TRD OffRoads. One fitted with Bilstein suspension, and the other OME full 2″ suspension with Dakkar leaf spring.
I wish the both had OME. Perfect height. Perfect ride, I love the Billis, but love OME even more. Recommended.

Installed this lift in the fall of 2019 on my 2018 limited ( short box) . I am very impressed with the performance and ease of installation of the lift. (As others mentioned, there are great installation videos on You Tube )
2 minor issues though since the installation. 1) minor drive line vibration developed immediately after installation. Upon braking between 40 – 20 km/hr the drive line vibrated slightly (despite having the carrier bearing drop installed)
Corrective actions. I installed a 1 degree shim under the leaf springs which fixed the issue. 2) The rear suspension squeaked horribly in cold weather. ( Fix is still TBD) since winter is over.3) The shocks seem prone to surface rust where I live and the roads are salted in the winter)

BUYER BEWARE!! OME is good stuff but do not buy a lift kit from these guys if you value your time and money. 1 lift kit was purchased for 1 truck. I got 5 different tracking numbers from parts coming from different places all arriving at different times during a 2 week period. One shock arrived today the box was in bad shape and the shock was falling out, not sure what all parts are supposed to be with it. Once all parts arrive i will write another review on their condition. As of now Bilstein Lifts has wasted my time and money.

Very happy with the lift. I purchased a heavy load 2″. The ride is so much smoother than the stock suspension. I’m carrying metal bumpers, bed rack, and a tent on top.

Excellent modest lift for a Tacoma. I put 275-70r17 on my 2017 Trd Sport with no rubbing. Lift feels just like stock except 2” higher.

Purchased this kit because it was relatively cheap for a full lift kit and was low enough to absolutely need uca’s. Install went as good as it could being from ny and dealing with rusty bolts. The kit itself was wondefrful, not sure if theres an option to pre assemble the front struts but i would have totally paid someone to do that for me! All in all the kit is excellent for the price, it does ship in 5 different boxes, but they all came within 5 business days for me. The kit allowed me to fit some 285/70/r17 under the taco, however it would probably rub a little on the fender liner if offroading and turning. I highly suggest this kit for people not looking to drop 4k on a fox or king kit. Totally worth it to me.

The kit itself is amazing. Although I would not recommend buying from this website. The shipment came in 5 different shipments throughout the span of 2 days. The leafs came scratched up like they were mishandled, and the shocks and struts were never delivered due to a damaged box. Getting through to customer service for an update would take a day per response. And the company had no clue what was in the box that was damaged, leaving it up to me to figure out what I didn’t have so that they could send me what was missing. After 3 weeks of receiving part of my order, I finally received the rest of it.

Dam good lift kit. High quality, money well spent. INVENTORY YOUR SHIT WHEN YOU GET IT! I was missing the leveling spacer for the driver side shock, I didn’t realize this till about a month later. I emailed customer service, and they sent me a replacement asap. I want to give 4 star for missing the part, but customer service was quick with replying and replacing the lost part so 5 stars from me. This is not a cake walk install kit. I had to replace my strut mounts because I could not reuse the old ones, they cost an extra 60 bucks from the local automotive shop. I found one great video on YouTube to help I recommend you search for it. Very happy with the lift,

All parts arrived correct and on time. Minor paint dings on the leaf springs (easily painted).
Customer service was very responsive via SMS providing accurate shipping info/updates.
